Sips of Summer
The world looks better through Rose colored glasses
I have a group of friends who I have known since Jr. High. We call ourselves the Puberty to Menopause and Beyond group. Traci is one of my PBM friends. We met in 7th grade; we were 13. We literally ran into one another while running laps in PE. Traci fell and tore a hole in her cute pink sweat pants, which really made me sad. I stopped to help her up, and we have been friends ever since. Traci is one of the most talented people I have ever met. We spent a lot of time crafting, though, the crafting I did could never compare to the quality things Traci made. For me, crafting is sill a hobby, but Traci has turned her skills into a business. She is a successful graphic artist, who makes jewelry, clothing, candles and lotions on the side. I love visiting her in Napa, just so I can go through all of her latest creations. You can check out her line of jewelry at tracilane.com and on Instagram or you can find out more about her graphic arts business on Instagram.
On a recent road trip from Napa to Southern California with Traci we stopped in a lovely tasting room in Paso Robles. It was warm outside and we were looking for a cool place to sit and sip some afternoon wine. Traci has been living in Napa Valley for nearly 30 years. She has worked with many of the wineries, creating their beautiful and unique labels. Over the years, Traci has become what I call, a wine expert. I am not sure she would refer to herself as such, but that is only because she is very humble. Clearly she knows more about wine than any person I have ever met.
In addition to knowing her wine, she also knows almost everyone in Napa. At least it feels that way when I come to visit. She said she had some friends from Napa, who had just opened a tasting room in downtown Paso and she wanted to check it out. This is where she introduced me to beauty of Rose. Personally, I always thought of Rose as a cheap, kind of punch like wine; sweet and syrupy.
Nothing could be farther from the truth!
Traci pointed out the obvious…clearly, I had not had a good Rose. The Serial tasting room is nestled in the historic downtown area of Paso Robles in the old Odd Fellows building. It blends old world charm with modern art and design and is a warm and welcoming place to just sit for a bit. It is the perfect place to relax while sipping wine and visiting with old friends or making new ones. I should mention that they also welcomed our fur friend; Traci’s golden retriever Hobie, with open arms. They very kindly brought him a bowl of water to sip, while his humans enjoyed a very cold glass of their best Rose. That 2022 Serial Deseao Vineyard Rose` was a real game changer for me. It caused me to embark on a Rose journey, through Total Wine and More… I am looking forward to some warmer weather ahead so I can indulge in a wonderfully refreshing rose`. As I have been exploring more Rosé Wines, I have found a few others worth mentioning Dune Gris, The Beach by Chateau de Escalans, and Summer Water.
What would be your recommendations for the perfect sip of summer rose`?
